Walker had a big birthday week last week! We started the week by going to Butner to visit his grandma and grandpa. He's always been very comfortable there and loves to play with his grandpa and get hugs from his grandma. We went to the playground at my old elementary school and he had a great time on the slide and swings. I'd hold him and slide down while he smiled and giggled on the way down. He was sooo cute! On Saturday afternoon, we had my Aunt Betty, Aunt Trudy, cousin Alicia and her little boy, Ethan, over for cake and ice cream. Walker mostly tore the cake apart; I don't think he took single bite of it.
On his actual birthday, Tuesday, we had a low-key day. Since he had so much excitement the weekend prior, we didn't do too much. We did go visit with Yinda and have lunch at her house. He wound up eating his lunch in the sink! Yes, I said the SINK! There was a road crew repaving the road in front of their house. He wanted to watch them from the window, which happened to be above the kitchen sink. So, we propped him up to take a look. While he was propped up there, he noticed his plate sitting on the counter and took a swipe of his food, which he wouldn't touch a few minutes before. I tried in vain to get him to eat his lunch and he wasn't having any of it. So, I figured, "well, at least he's eating." So, he ate his lunch while sitting in the sink. There's a picture of it somewhere...I think it's on Yinda's camera. Later that afternoon, Me-mommy came over to visit and go for a stroll around the block. She also brought over his swing to hang in the backyard! He loves to swing and we can't wait to get it up!
On Wednesday, the 31st, we had his one-year check-up. He now weighs 20 lbs. 5 oz. He was due for a few shots and I was hoping it would go as well as last time - he didn't even cry at that appointment. No such luck! Our appointment was during his naptime and he didn't have a chance to crawl around and get his energy out before the appointment. So, he was crying before the nurse even came into the room. He got three shots and he hit the ceiling! Joseph, who went to check us out while we were getting the shots, said that he could hear him down the hall. Poor baby! That afternoon and the next day, he slept and slept and wasn't his smiley, giggly self. He also wouldn't use his left leg. It was really frightening to see him like that. At one point, we thought we were going to have to cancel his party. But after a few days, he was back to normal and ready to party!
Saturday was his BIG party here in Charlotte. We had about 25 people over for cake and a little singing of "Happy Birthday." It was a "Pepper" themed party since Pepper is his favorite thing these days. We had Pepper invitations and a Pepper cake. We were hoping that she could mingle with the guests, but her tail started clearing off the coffee tables and she wanted to sample the hor dourves. So, she spent most of the party on the screened porch. Those two are so funny together! His friends Charlotte Marston, Will and Barrett Moody, and Chase Howell came over to play and have a few goldfish crackers. Walker did great with a big crowd. He never fussed or became overwhelmed. He absolutely devoured his cake! I turned around and it was gone. I looked on the floor expecting to see it there, but it wasn't. He loved it!
I'm really enjoying this age! He's so expressive and still so cuddly. He's my little punkin pie!
